The Nightscales

3 min read

Starting in the new year, I'll be relaunching all of my books with fresh edits and updated covers. I'm really excited about this. I'm looking for a group of people who like my books and are interested in helping me promote them.

How does this work?

:bulletblue:Leaving reviews of my books on Amazon, Goodreads and your blogs

:bulletblue:osting me for an interview or guest post on their blog

:bulletblue:haring others' reviews and social media posts about you/your books

:bulletblue:haring my author accounts in social media posts

:bulletblue:osting shoutouts on your social media channels

:bulletblue:osting Instagram photos of my books

:bulletblue:ord-of-mouth promotion – talking about/recommending my books to your family members, friends etc.

:bulletblue:uggesting my books to book clubs and requesting them at libraries

But, what's in it for you, you ask?

:bulletblue:On-line space (exclusive discord channel or Facebook group)

:bulletblue:Discount on other book purchases

:bulletblue:Exclusive merch

:bulletblue:First access to ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) of my books

:bulletblue:Early access to short stories, prequels etc.

:bulletblue:The opportunity to be beta readers for forthcoming novels

:bulletblue:Sneak peeks at cover and title reveals, excerpts from future books etc.

:bulletblue:Bonus book-related content such as printable artworks, maps, bookmarks etc.

:bulletblue:Promotion of your blogs, projects, and social media accounts on my social media accounts

:bulletblue:Shoutouts/thank yous in the Acknowledgements sections of my books

:bulletblue: Access to unpublished drabbles

:bulletblue: Discounts on merchandise and books

Apply to join the Nightscales Street Team

The form asks you what your favourite series is because not everyone likes everything I write. As such, your experience with the Nightscales will be tailored to what you like. Your ARC copies and merch will be more aimed in that direction while still getting discounts on my other books and sneak peaks at other things I'm working on.

Not interested but still want to keep informed on what's going on? You can sign up for the Azurian Time newsletter. Subscribers get access to some of my unpublished short stories, my inktober books, first hand news about upcoming release dates, sales, and more.

There's a sign up form on my website: https://keverynn.net/

Don't forget I also have a Discord serverwhere I talk about my books, give sneak peeks of merch I'm working on, and just talk about things.

Website Revamp

2 min read

I've spent a lot of time lately rebuilding my website lately and I'm finally ready to properly talk about it.

I have a bunch of posts lately that have links to either Keverynn.net or to my blog. Both of those are links to specific pages on my website. I'm putting in effort to use it more. With this OCeptember challenge it was a good opportunity to do so. There are proper write ups for the images on my website, although you might notice that some of the pages are locked.

Why is that?

I'm trying to protect some of my worldbuilding ideas and thoughts, things I haven't fully released to the public and things I'm not quite ready to release just yet. There's also some stuff behind those locks that may contain spoilers for some of the books I've written.

Getting behind those locks is as simple as registering for an account on the website, which is easy and free. Once you're a registered member you can see anything tagged for the Subscriber level. Right now, I think that's everything. I don't think I have anything that's locked for higher tiers although that may change. Registered users can also comment on posts.

All of my book news, writing tidbits, and weird character building stuff is going to go up there first. I've also got my dolls up there, too.

Before people freak out, not everything is locked. Some of the content up there is available to the general public on other sites and so is marked as open access. If you see that a character page is locked but you know that character page is up on Toyhouse, it's safe to assume that there's something in that profile that isn't on their Toyhouse page, something that's spoiler-y or just not available to the public yet.

TL;DR: If a post on my website is locked, there's a reason. Pages aren't locked arbitrarily. Site registration is free and all are welcome.

A few things have come up recently that have made me feel like this is necessary. I used to look up to authors like JK Rowling. That’s what I wanted to do. To tell a story that other people love. Her recent actions haven’t lessened my appreciation of her work but I’ve lost any sort of value in anything she has to say and that saddens me. It saddens me to know that the creator of one of the most important stories of the last twenty years is so closed minded.

All the messages on Facebook I was reading about this situation got me thinking. Does she even know how much power she has? She could do so much good with her position and yet this is how she chooses to use her words.

People like her are more or less why Stars of Destiny was created the way it is. It is first and foremost a universe where magic exists, where magical girls (and boys) take on the fight against all the bad things out there. It’s a simple enough premise and you’ve likely seen it a hundred times. The thing with SoD’s magic, however, is in its transformative nature. I’ve hinted at this with a few characters.

Bio - Phantom

Yan Diamono has short black hair in civilian form but has longer blond hair when he becomes Phantom. Yan is part Italian, part Chinese. This is part of the reason for the change. Yan is also not terribly fond of his dark hair but also dislikes the idea of dying it as he’s a fundamentally lazy person at heart. His hair as Phantom is how he sees himself, his idealized self if you will. Out loud he complains about it but he secretly loves it.

Bio - Vega

Hyun Ae Song in civilian form always has short hair dyed some kind of fun colour. Lately she’s taken to shades of blue and green. A part of her regrets cutting her hair off, so as Vega she regains her long, naturally black hair.

Bio - Knight

The least drastic change is Kousei Prince. He wants to have longer hair and always has, but his parents won’t let him grow it past his shoulders. That aside anything longer is impractical for playing sports. As Knight he can have the long ponytail he’s always wanted.

These are just the character changes I’ve written to date. The Stars of Destiny universe is meant to be completely inclusionary to all. Thinking about Rowling last night it occurred to me that a trans sehashi would look more like how they perceive themselves to be. They’d wear whichever uniform suits their identity rather than their genetic gender. I mean, what’s the point of an alter ego/secret identity if it doesn’t reflect who you really are?

I hope this is making sense and I don’t sound tone deaf. It’s 6:30 am as of the time of writing this and I’ve not been in the best of health lately.

Doll Anagram

2 min read

I had this fun idea last night to do a collaborative doll custom. I don't have a particular theme in mind. The idea is that I take one of my stock bases (in this case a second hand Ghoulia Yelps) and you as a community decide what steps I take to make her: hair (colour, length, style), eye colour, makeup, etc.

I've gone through my current stash of hair to see what I have available. Including the doll's current hair, there are 13 colours I could possible use. (No, I don't have a hair buying problem. What are you talking about?)

Base: Ghoulia Yelps

Hair

Colour: (Handy colour chart for reference)

Dollanagram

Doll’s original hair

Black Magick

Sunlight

Pumpkin Spice

Tiger Lily

After Midnight

Water Nixie

Lapis Sapphire

Forget me not

Envy

Sour Apple Martini

Spearmint

Haunted Forest

Some hair colours can only be done in shorter styles as they've been used for other projects. Colour blends are also possible.

Length: Short, shoulder, medium, long

Style:

Eye colour:

Skin Tone:

Lip colour:

Earrings: y/n

We'll start with her hair colour first, so there's a poll up for it. I'll also put one up for her skin tone shortly.
