Done now! Yay! Now with background. Thanks to Dubird for suggesting that I add feathering to the base of the wings.

This is a Wyndchild as seen in my novel 'Sword and Sorcery'. Specifically, this one is called Flametail and his poor rider is Aiken Chesney.

Ok. I'm very pleased with the wings. I decided while I was working those tufts of fur that they'd be permanent. The wings retract, but the tufts stray put, marking the wing spots.

The scales on the legs I'm not as happy with, but I've never done scales before. I totally respect people who can do that sort of thing now as it took almost an hour to do color those, never mind the time it took to draw those and I even cheated! (I drew one scale and rotated it and pasted it as I needed.)

The fur is supposed to look shaggy. They fly and can get really high so it's necessary to have shaggy fur to keep themselves warm.
All of them have a two toned color to the fur. The markings run from the base of the tail, up the back of the neck along the hairline, down the nose, continuing under the chin and down the front of the neck to continue along the belly and back to the back legs. The swirl patterns are unique to each individual. Some have more, some have less.

The hooves are cloven. I actually got those looking how I want them.

The mane is always a different color than the other two body colors while the tail is in the same tone as the main body. Older Wynchilds will develop streaks in their tail in the secondary body color. The truly old ones will also have streaks of a color matching their mane. They live for a fairly long time under normal circumstances.

His eyes are partially hidden by facial fur. That's not how I'd intended to do them, but frankly it looks better this way.

I'm happier with how the fur turned out in this image than I am the way it happened in my earlier Kairyyl image.

Ah good. I was quite worried that they'd look cheesy. My first couple tries sure did...

The fluffs. I'm still not too happy with the scales, but I can't think of how to fix them, so...
